Following on from our blog regarding The Millstone Hare being shortlisted at West Midlands Tourism Awards, we are thrilled to report that The Millstone Hare Scooped Silver!

West Midlands Tourism Awards

This year marked the inaugural West Midlands Tourism Awards, organised by the West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) in collaboration with VisitEngland. Recognising the region’s finest tourist organisations, fifteen of the West Midlands’ best visitor venues were crowned at the grand ceremony last month, with our onsite pub and restaurant The Millstone Hare proudly taking silver place in the Pub of the Year category.

The awards also served to highlight the importance of the contribution tourism makes to the regional economy, currently standing at £12.6 billion, through attracting millions of visitors to the centre of the country. In fact, in 2018, the organisations and venues who make the West Midlands so vibrant helped bring a record 131 million visitors here!

Neil Rami, Chief Executive of the WMGC, remarked: “The West Midlands Tourism Awards provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the very best of our region’s visitor economy offer, which is enjoying a real renaissance.”

The Awards Ceremony

Held on 26th February at the University of Birmingham’s Grand Hall, the awards ceremony crowned fifteen exceptional organisations across its visitor attraction, leisure and hospitality sectors. Categories included Experience of the Year; B&B and Guest House of the Year; and the Taste of England award. The regional winners automatically feed up to the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, which takes place in June.

Hosted by Martin Roberts, presenter of ITV travel show Wish You Were Here and current star of BBC’s property auction programme Homes under the Hammer, the evening featured performances by the Black Voices music ensemble. Guests were also treated to a song from the Royal Shakespeare Company’s hit musical The Boy in the Dress.

The Millstone Hare – Silver for Pub of the Year

In a tough category recognising pubs that make a significant contribution to tourism in their area, with food and drink offering that includes quality, locally-sourced produce, everyone at The Millstone Hare was thrilled to be awarded silver prize at the inaugural event.

Neil Rami expressed his compliments to all of those involved, saying: “Huge congratulations to all of our nominees and the gold and silver winners who will now go on to represent the West Midlands at VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence. I’m sure many of them will make their mark on this national stage.”
